Charles Leclerc performed impressively in the first two free practice sessions of the year, first as third fastest and then as the fastest driver. And he did so with great determination.
In FP2, he managed to overtake both McLarens, and finishing ahead of the secret favorite is never a bad thing. Leclerc doesn't make much of a fuss about it, but...
“It was very good. We prepared perfectly for the second free practice session, because the car is very manageable, and in terms of feeling, it gave its all. Of course, there are things we still need to work on and improve; for example, I'm not completely satisfied with the balance, but, in any case, we're much better than we were in Bahrain during testing. I don't want to lose touch with reality, but after a day like this, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow and trying to fight for pole position!”
At the same time, it's important to emphasize that we haven't yet seen the true performance of the others. Some hide more, others less, but McLaren will certainly be at the top. Currently, we see that Red Bull is struggling, but they are Red Bull Racing, you never know... Especially with Max Verstappen, whom it would be a huge mistake to underestimate at any moment, I'm sure they will be tough rivals, just like Mercedes. We're in for an exciting day!" declared Charles Leclerc with quiet confidence.
