According to Jacques Villeneuve, Scuderia Ferrari can only truly become Lewis Hamilton's team if he takes the reins from Charles Leclerc. In every sense.
For now, it's clear there was more smoke than fire. So far, Hamilton hasn't really taken the world by storm. Despite his sprint race victory, he doesn't seem like the promised messiah who will lead the Italians back to the world championship. According to Jacques Villeneuve, the way and foundation for that is for him to "take over" Charles Leclerc's team:
"He has very little time to prove it; he's starting to run out of the grace period that characterized his euphoric arrival. He can do it if he takes Leclerc's lead. It's not a short-term project, but the good news for Lewis is that he's already achieved that—at least on a marketing level."
"His success depends on whether he can take the team away from Leclerc, whether he can make the team his own. That's what he needs to do, not just commercially, but also physically on the track. He needs to get pole positions, he needs to win, he needs to prove himself a world championship contender," the former world champion said of the other former world champion.
