It's very rare for someone to lead the drivers' competition in F1 (and at a massive level) while only finishing third in the constructors' competition.
With McLaren resurgent and Scuderia Ferrari performing well, the final stretch of the 2024 season is getting more and more exciting. Max Verstappen's world championship title is not yet in jeopardy, but with another win for Lando Norris and a potential elimination for Red Bull Racing, the teams could get so close that it could already be considered an open race.
In the meantime, however, the Dutchman is moving toward another success, which could not only be special because it would be a title defense. His team sits modestly in third place in the constructors' championship, and if Verstappen nevertheless wins the world title, he could equal a 41-year-old record, specifically that of Nelson Piquet, who became world champion in 1983 driving a car from a team that held third place in the constructors' championship. After the dominance of recent seasons, it's very interesting to write about this, but that's precisely the situation right now.
