A Mercedes engineer, one of the most renowned, spoke to the New York Times about how the seven-time champion became so successful.
According to Andrew Shovlin, the key lies not in work ethic, obsession, or the desire to improve, but rather in an almost pathological phobia of defeat.
"I don't think there's another driver like him. He has a completely unique way of thinking, and I loved working with him. He's extremely committed to success, and he demands the same from others. But what truly made him great, what is his true superpower, is his almost pathological phobia of defeat. It repels him terribly, so he does everything he can, constantly influencing those around him to avoid it. I don't know another competitor who has this mentality so present. It's obvious that we all hate losing, but the preoccupation he feels about it and his desire to fight it puts Lewis Hamilton head and shoulders above the rest." - Shovlin declared admiringly about his former driver.
What do you think, will Lewis Hamilton's phobia strengthen or weaken at Scuderia Ferrari?
