George Russell has always believed that the best driver in the world is in the Mercedes pit, and that, if he can prove it, he could one day become a world champion.
Now Russell is here, and he wants to make good on this promise himself. For two seasons, he's consistently outperformed Lewis Hamilton within the team, so in theory, he'd only need competitive technology to accomplish his mission:
“I'm fully aware of the role assigned to me as the team's most experienced driver. In 2025, many great young drivers will arrive in Formula 1, and at this moment you realize that, although you're not old, you're no longer young. My career has reached a new chapter; having closed the first stage, I'm entering the next. When Lewis Hamilton started winning world championships nonstop, he was already older than me, and now it's my turn to follow his example. I feel I'm moving in the right direction; I'm ready to take on the role assigned to me. The key is to be as fast as possible, and that's how I feel.” - George Russell spoke indirectly about his goals.
Can you imagine Russell as a world champion?
