Disgusting policy: Schumacher cannot be an honorary citizen

Política repugnante: Schumacher no puede ser ciudadano honorario

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

If there were no Michael Schumacher, probably no one in the world would be able to locate Kerpen on the map. But Schumacher is, was, and hopefully will still be—this is something the city government, which is unwilling to grant him the title of honorary citizen, should understand.

The issue isn't new; both the profession and fans have been trying to secure this recognition for the seven-time world champion using various forms of pressure for some time. All in vain... Local politics has once again taken a stand, and it couldn't have done so in a more disgusting way:

"There is no Order of Honor in Kerpen. The introduction of the Order of Honor and the corresponding title of honorary citizen is entirely the responsibility of the municipal council," said Mayor Dieter Spürck on the matter.

"On March 19, 2024, the city unanimously decided to postpone the issue of granting Michael Schumacher the title of honorary citizen. Factions and representatives outside the factions must first vote in an inter-factional vote on whether such a title should be introduced. Since then, no requests have been received on this topic," explained the "first" man from Kerpen, whose colleagues added to this with comments such as "it currently makes no sense" and "where does honorary citizenship begin and where does it end?"

We don't need to comment on all this, you already know our opinion.
