South Africa is waging a vigorous campaign to get the country back on the Formula 1 circuit, and not just in the news. Therefore, the country's sports minister has formed a committee to select the promoter with whom the country can bid in the coming months.
Kyalami, a venue not entirely unknown in F1, is said to be a possible winner. Gayton McKenzie, the minister responsible for sport, is already planning for 2027, as he believes the necessary conditions for hosting the event could be met by then:
"The committee that has now been formed will determine the conditions of the bid. They must submit a proposed location to the government before the end of February, one that will certainly not bring shame to the country and will host the best possible race within the options. The location is still unknown, but I'd like to add that Kyalami has a history and has the necessary infrastructure. Just look at the climate, the roads, and the possibility of an urban race is easily apparent. There are investors willing to invest in this, so I think everything is in place..." declared the most relevant player in the matter.
