Today's news is that Franco Colapinto has "found an owner." Alpine has set its sights on the talented driver, reportedly considering him for testing and as a reserve driver. SUPPOSEDLY…
The Williams team also reported on this, emphasizing that they support Colapinto's ability to be on the active grid by 2025, or at the latest 2026. If we compare this 2025 reference with Flavio Briatore's statement, we can reach a rather interesting conclusion.
"Franco has spent nine races with us, during which time he's made it clear he has a place on the grid. We've always said we support him in this, and I believe the deal with Alpine will secure this opportunity for him," James Vowles said enigmatically.
"We'll start the season with Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan, that's for sure. But what happens next, we'll only know with time. If there's a driver among us who isn't evolving and isn't going to deliver the progress and results we expect, I'll replace him. There's no room for sentimentality in F1," Briatore declared enigmatically.
If we add to this the fact that Colapinto's father posted a since-deleted image celebrating his son's seat in 2025, the story is, to say the least, disconcerting. Is Jack Doohan in the spotlight? Is Franco Colapinto ready?
