Is the Bahrain meeting actually a crisis conference?

¿La reunión en Baréin es en realidad una conferencia de crisis?

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

It seems the meeting with the team leaders isn't what it seems at all. So the return of V10 engines is just a window dressing, while the focus is on putting out the fires in the background...

All of this was mentioned by Mark Hughes, a veteran F1 journalist, who described quite accurately what he meant. According to Hughes, the weekend meeting became urgent because during the development of the 2026 engine formula, chasms had formed between the manufacturers, which could lead the series into a spiral where competition could even become sloppy.

Of the five engine manufacturers, one is said to be in an outstanding position (according to Hughes, this is Mercedes), one is in a gray zone, meaning nothing is known about it, the third will be uncompetitive with the fuel it has chosen, while the other two suppliers are at an extremely primitive level. Furthermore, the problem is compounded by the fact that most engine components have already undergone homologation, which freezes the current power ranking. And we haven't even mentioned the global economic crisis affecting everything, including this process. They want to find some solution to this... In theory, the elimination of homologation could represent an opportunity, and the balance of power delivered by the internal combustion engine/electric motor could be adjusted. But whether this represents a solution or if it will only be enough for the calm before the storm...
