Hamilton: "I've never turned..."

Hamilton: "Nunca he girado..."

Lewis Hamilton refuses to accept that his retirement was due to driver error on the opening lap of the US Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion attributes his retirement to a technical fault.

After the race, Hamilton was highly critical and demanded a more in-depth review by the team. Not only did the developments not work, but the car was even worse than before the four-week break:

"There was a similar situation in the first free practice session, when I spun at Turn 3. This is incredibly rare; I've never spun at this circuit. You can see George Russell also struggled with this on Saturday, but he's back on the previous specification, so the problem may be with the new gearbox. The car is constantly bouncing around, so if I didn't spin at Turn 3, I would have done it at another corner or another time. Something wasn't right with the car; I was struggling all weekend. I've never spun at a single race in my life. It wasn't due to a lack of concentration, it was because the technique wasn't good. It's frustrating, but it's the way it is. I'd rather focus on getting back in the car on Friday," Hamilton lamented.
