Mexican Grand Prix, FP2: Sainz finished on top

Gran Premio de México, FP2: Sainz terminó en la cima

Tamás Jancsovics |

The Mexican race continued with a special stage, where the group was able to test Pirelli's 2025 tyres in the second phase. This time, we were also not spared the red flag, as George Russell crashed his Mercedes.

The free practice session had barely begun when Russell lost control of his car on the exit of a corner and suffered a serious accident. At the time, we had no idea it would be the "most exciting" moment of the session, nor that we would have to worry about Russell's health, as he was complaining of pain in his ribs. That was exactly the situation, while the Pirelli tire test proceeded monotonously, boringly, and quietly, during which the drivers used unmarked tires. So we didn't really know which compound each driver was using; at most, we could deduce it from the times. Only at the end of the session did a few medium tires appear here and there, but only those who didn't participate in FP1 were able to do so, although this didn't change the overall picture. Ultimately, Carlos Sainz won FP2, followed by Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda, but today we didn't become any wiser about the power ratios.
