From a European perspective, we saw nothing surprising in the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix, which started at a less than friendly interval. Historic, however!
Lewis Hamilton got off to a perfect start, as did the entire field, which exited the grid without any problems. Shortly after, Lando Norris, who was in third place, tried to be too bold and dropped to ninth. However, Yuki Tsunoda felt better about his pace, as by lap three he was in sixth place, probably not only because of the valuable points, but also a little because of his Red Bull Racing seat. Meanwhile, Liam Lawson was in 18th place after a questionable overtake. At the front, Hamilton maintained his lead of around one second over Max Verstappen, but on lap eight, the Dutchman closed in on the attacking distance. In the end, nothing happened; in fact, instead of an overtake, Verstappen had to pay attention to Oscar Piastri, who was coming up behind. By then, the positions were already fixed, and we practically only saw a train of cars on the track. Piastri eventually caught Verstappen, but he didn't have enough time or tires to go after Hamilton. The Briton won his first sprint race, securing victory for Scuderia Ferrari over Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen.
