Bahrain Grand Prix: Piastri wins and is now second in the points standings

Gran Premio de Bahréin: Piastri ganó y ya es segundo en la clasificación de puntos

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

The Bahrain Grand Prix was no surprise, with Oscar Piastri achieving a clear win from start to finish in a fairly straightforward race with controlled driving.

Piastri got off to a strong start and easily maintained his leading position. However, George Russell had a stronger start, moving up to second place, not to mention Lando Norris, who, with an even more powerful start, immediately leapt onto the podium. Not only did those at the front shine, but those behind also put in a great effort: Pierre Gasly comfortably held onto his fifth place, while Carlos Sainz quickly moved up to sixth.

However, the Spaniard didn't get to enjoy his time for long, as first Kimi Antonelli caught up with him and then Max Verstappen also overtook him. Shortly after, Lewis Hamilton did the same, though the Williams driver had a spectacular battle with him, only to ultimately emerge defeated. Meanwhile, the other Red Bull was also steadily closing in on Yuki Tsunoda, and after completing the tenth lap, the pit stops began. We saw different tactics, with Scuderia Ferrari and Alex Albon being the last to make their tire changes. After the reshuffle, we saw the Piastri-Russell-Norris order again, but what was much more interesting was the situation of Haas and Esteban Ocon: the Frenchman, starting from the back of the field, was running a solid sixth.

We were already well past the halfway point of the race when Charles Leclerc found his rhythm, overtook Norris, and took third place. Meanwhile, Verstappen's suffering was very noticeable, as he was having one of his worst races in recent years. On lap 32, the unexpected twist came: Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz became entangled in a fierce battle, the two cars colliding, resulting in debris on the track. The safety car appeared, and with it, the entire strategy we had seen up until then was thrown into disarray. Piastri performed a great restart, and after an intense fight that followed, everything was back to normal, with the Piastri-Russell-Leclerc trio leading the Bahrain Grand Prix.

We certainly won't remember this race as the race of the decade, except for the midfield battles; hardly anything noteworthy happened. The final laps were enlivened by Norris's agile attacks, who after several attempts managed to snatch third place from Leclerc, and that was how the race ended. Thus, Oscar Piastri won the Bahrain Grand Prix, ahead of George Russell and his teammate, who thus moved up to second place in the individual standings.
