As we reported last week, news has spread in Las Vegas that Andretti, who had previously been rejected, could be on the 2026 roster with an interesting change under another name.
Now the official confirmation has arrived: the Formula 1 World Championship field will indeed be expanded! Here are the statements from those involved:
"The participation of General Motors and Cadillac in this project is a very important and positive step forward for the development of our sport. We look forward to how the project will develop and grow; we are confident that everyone will support us," said Stefano Domenicali.
“GM is an incredible global brand, with impressive partnerships. I fully support the joint effort of the FIA, Formula 1, and General Motors, and we have already worked out an agreement for the team to be at the start of the 2026 World Championship. The parties are committed and will work together to ensure this process runs smoothly,” said Mohammed ben Sulayem.
“Motorsports reaches its pinnacle in Formula 1, and as such, demands continuous innovation from those involved. It’s an honor that GM and Cadillac can join this elite. We’ve long been committed to elevating the sport, Formula 1, to a higher level by competing with passion and honesty. This is a huge global stage, and we can showcase GM’s engineering expertise and technological leadership to a new level,” said Mark Reuss, the American leader.
