The former Scuderia Ferrari team boss believes the Italian team made a mistake in signing Lewis Hamilton. However, he believes Hamilton made a great deal!
Binotto returned to Formula 1 this year as CEO of Audi, but somewhere along the line he'll always remain a Ferrari supporter. According to him, Fred Vasseur made a mistake in signing Hamilton, as he should have focused much more on the talent of Charles Leclerc:
"Hamilton did very well to join Ferrari, I agree with his decision. If I had to decide on this matter, I wouldn't have called him up to the team, because I think we should focus on the younger drivers. There's the talented Leclerc, and I think we should achieve great goals with him."
"I've been a Ferrari supporter since my childhood, and our shared past can't be erased. I still have many photos and objects from that time at home. But professional decisions aren't always balanced with emotions; you have to know how to differentiate them. Despite this, I'm still happy when Ferrari wins. I have many acquaintances there, and in those moments, I feel like I've somehow contributed to their success," Binotto said.
