All is not lost for the Dutch Grand Prix: Zandvoort out, Assen in?

Aún no está todo perdido para el Gran Premio de los Países Bajos: ¿Zandvoort fuera, Assen dentro?

For some time now, it's been well known that Zandvoort, and with it the Netherlands, will soon be leaving the F1 circuit. Two more Grands Prix will be held there, and then... Then, after initial hesitation, Assen has now expressed interest in taking over!

However, the situation isn't simple. The true traditions of Europe and Formula 1 mean less and less to the current management of the speed circus (unfortunately), despite this, Arjan Bos, president of the Assen circuit, has indicated that they would like to be a replacement partner in the (otherwise horrible) rotational system devised by F1.

“Of course, it's a big dream for us to bring Formula 1 to Assen. I think that when you've invested so much money in a circuit and enjoy the support of the public, then—if it's possible—we should definitely give it a go. That's exactly what we're doing, and we're very positive about the opportunity. We'll calmly consider what it takes to be able to make a substantial bid, but for now, it's not clear that Zandvoort will be out and Assen will be in.”

"We have to be cautious. I don't know, we'll see if F1 really wants this race. I'd like to hear Zandvoort's arguments as to why they're backing out, and I don't know F1's thoughts on the Netherlands. We know they want fewer European races, that they're thinking about Africa and India. We also have to take these aspects into account," Bos reflected.
