At 44, Alonso doesn't look like someone who wants to hang up his gloves. Almost every weekend, he's asked how much longer he'll stay. His answer is always the same: a long time, because he's committed.
Alonso could be on the track even at 50 years old, which in itself would represent a unique record in modern Formula 1:
“When I turn 50? I don't know what it'll be like then, so I'm leaving all doors open. This year I definitely wanted to race, and next year I also want to be on the grid due to the changing regulations. I want to prove myself in 2026, and I wanted to wait for Honda to arrive. Adrian Newey's arrival has added a huge plus to all of this, and has made the contract extension very attractive.”
I'll always be ready to help my team, in whatever capacity they need from me. If they want me behind the wheel, I'll be there, no matter my age! If I'm motivated and fast enough, there's no barrier. Otherwise, I'll be the first to raise my hand and say it's over.
"It bothers me a little that we don't get the same results on Sundays as before, but that doesn't diminish my motivation or my hunger for success. In fact! I'm calm and determined, because this is a transition period from which we can learn a lot. Now we're preparing so that one day we'll be in a position to compete decently when we have a car that can contend with the championship. And that moment will come, when the team is ready too, and I'll be here," Fernando Alonso declared calmly.
